Markforged Launches Onyx GF: Industrial Performance Meets High-Visibility Colour

For years, manufacturers have faced a common challenge when producing production-grade tooling, fixtures and functional parts with additive manufacturing: choosing between performance and visibility.

With the launch of Onyx GF™, Markforged has removed that compromise.

Officially launched globally on 16 June 2026, Onyx GF is a non-conductive, glass-fibre-filled nylon that delivers the same strength, stiffness and print reliability that users have come to expect from the Markforged Onyx platform, now available in six high-visibility colours: Red, Yellow, Green, Blue, White and Grey.

Why Onyx GF Matters

In industrial environments, colour is more than aesthetics. It plays a critical role in visual management, safety, workflow efficiency and quality control.

Whether it’s identifying tooling by production line, highlighting safety-critical components, or improving foreign object debris (FOD) detection in aerospace and defence applications, colour-coded manufacturing tools can significantly reduce errors and improve operational performance.

Onyx GF has been developed specifically to address this need, providing manufacturers with a production-grade material that combines visual identification with the durability required for demanding industrial applications.

Key Benefits

Improved Visual Management

Colour-coded jigs, fixtures and tooling provide instant visual recognition across production environments, helping operators quickly identify the correct equipment and reducing the risk of costly errors or rework.

Enhanced Workplace Safety

High-visibility colours can be used to clearly identify guards, pinch points, touch points and moving hazards, improving operator awareness and supporting safer workplaces.

FOD Prevention

In highly regulated industries such as aerospace and defence, visibility is critical. Brightly coloured tooling and fixtures make foreign object detection faster and more reliable, helping organisations maintain quality and compliance standards.

Non-Conductive Properties

As a non-conductive material with RF transparency, Onyx GF is particularly well suited for antenna enclosures, sensor housings and other applications where electrical conductivity can create performance challenges.

Continuous Carbon Fibre Reinforcement

Like traditional Onyx, Onyx GF can be reinforced with Continuous Carbon Fibre, allowing users to produce exceptionally strong parts capable of replacing machined metal components in many applications.

Available for FX10 and FX20 Users

At launch, Onyx GF is compatible with the Markforged FX10 and FX20 platforms. Users will require a Hardened Plastic Nozzle to print the material and ensure optimal printer performance.

Additional printer compatibility is expected in future releases.

What This Means for Australian Manufacturers

As Western Australia’s exclusive Markforged partner, Auto Control Systems is excited to bring this latest innovation to local manufacturers.

Onyx GF fills a long-standing gap in the additive manufacturing market by combining industrial-grade performance, colour identification and continuous fibre reinforcement within the secure and proven Markforged ecosystem.

For organisations focused on improving productivity, safety, visual management and manufacturing efficiency, Onyx GF represents another step forward in making additive manufacturing a practical tool for the factory floor.
